Springer Verlag AG, although its roughly 20 percent share of the newspaper market is largely due to the high circulation of “Bild”. As regards Sunday papers, Axel Springer AG is almost without competition with “Welt am Sonntag” and “Bild am Sonntag”. Economic and journalistic power is also concentrated in the publishing group of the “Westdeutsche Allgemeine Zeitung”, the Suddeutscher Verlag Group, the Verlag M. DuMont Schauberg, the publishing group of the “Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung” and the Holtzbrinck Group. Also important in terms of economic power and journalistic effectiveness are the publishers of periodicals (especially general-interest magazines), led by the Bauer Verlag Group, Gruner & Jahr, the Burda Group and the Axel Springer Publishing Group. The media corporation with the largest turnover - and the second largest in the world - is Bertelsmann AG, which has global operations.
