The Press And Information Office Of The Federal Government (Bpa) : German
The Press And Information Office Of The Federal Government (Bpa) : German
acts as an intermediary between the government and the public. The head of this public authority is at the same time the government spokesman. The system differs from that of some other countries in that the government spokesman is always the guest of the Federal Press Conference when he briefs Bonn’s journalists on the policies of the Federal Government. He goes to the press, not vice versa. This also applies to news conferences given by the Federal Chancellor and ministers in conjunction with the Federal Press Conference. The Press and Information Office of the Federal Government is also responsible for keeping the Federal President, the Federal Government and the Bundestag informed about “published opinion” in Germany and abroad. In order to do this, it evaluates the services of 25 news agencies and monitors more than 90 radio and 32 television programs in German and in 23 foreign languages.
