Diversity Of The Media : Germany
The people have a choice of many different and competing media. The daily papers alone sold about 25.5 million copies a day at the end of 1996. More than 230 radio programs are produced in Germany; over 30 television channels can be received by the average household. At present, more than 32 million television sets and about 35 million radios are officially registered. On average, Germans over 14 devote well over five hours a day to media products: newspapers and periodicals (70 minutes), the radio (2 hours) and television (2.5 hours). Supply is increasing constantly. Only about one percent of the population are not reached by the media at all. The great majority, however, regularly use two or more media.
