Data Communications : Germany
The Federal Republic of Germany has an oustanding telecommunications infrastructure. ‘ts telephone networks are also used for fax transmission and for computer-supported data transmission. The fiber-optic networks, which were previously used exclusively for reception of television and radio Programs, are now being enlarged and further de-veloped for data communications as well.
In conurbations such as Hamburg, Cologne, Frankfurt am Main and Munich, moreover, private telecommunications providers are operating high-speed “city networks” which enable connected firms to exchange data with one another and with the Internet.
