Transport : Germany

A modern industrial society like the Federal Republic of Germany needs an advanced transport system. It gives people the greatest possible mobility, makes it easier for them to choose where to live and work, and also helps to equalize living conditions. Without a well-functioning transport system, industry and commerce could not develop the necessary efficiency and flexibility. For a country as heavily dependent on foreign trade as Germany, this is particularly important.

The government is confronted with major challenges in the area of transport policy: The European internal market and the opening up of Eastern Europe are making Germany an even more important hub of trade and transport in the heart of Europe.
