In addition to the aforementioned activities in the area of “classic” nature conservation and sustainable use of nature, it is essential that the framework conditions for space-saving and resource-conserving regional and settlement development be further elaborated at all levels of regional planning. For this reason, both the Regional Planning Act and the Federal Building Code are currently being amended. Guidelines and suggestions for sustainable settlement concepts are also being drafted at the federal level which are integrated into an Agenda 21 process at the regional and local level.
