The Pavilions : Germany

The Federation, the federal states and the German business community will split the pavilion’s total cost of DM 280 million. In keeping with the concept of sustainable development, the building is to remain on its site after EXPO 2000 and be permanently utilized for administration, research and services.

The international pavilions can range in size from 600 to 9,000 square meters - and can remain in place until well into the next century if the given nation so wishes. The approximately 40 buildings on the East Pavilion Site will continue to be used after the World Exposition. About 30 of the structures on the West Pavilion Site will be dismantled at the end of the year 2000 and a number of them re-erected elsewhere. The theme of the World Exposition, “Humankind - Nature - Technology", applies to the buildings as well: They are to be distinctive for their environmentally compatible building materials and low energy consumption.
