Organization and Financing : Germany
An “intelligent” information system with 500-1000 stands scattered throughout the EXPO site will enable visitors to find their way around the World Exposition grounds with the greatest of ease. In addition to the standard information on EXPO 2000 exhibitors, exhibition hall floor plans, site maps and attractions, this information system will have special features such as:
£>a route optimization system which, on the basis of data entered by the visitor, will print out the route that makes the best use of the available time;
2>a ticket system which will offer international visitors information on everything from airline tickets to concert tickets and make reservations upon request; and a press information system.
EXPO 2000 will pay for itself. The costs of approximately DM 2.8 billion will largely be covered by sales of admission tickets (DM 1.6 billion) as well as by sponsoring, advertising revenues, concessions, services, events and rental fees (about DM 1.2 billion).
The World Exposition will itself be a prime economic and employment factor. It is estimated that EXPO 2000 will contribute up to DM 15.4 billion in value added to Germany’s gross domestic product and generate an additional DM 4.3 billion in tax revenues. EXPO is expected to employ about 53,000 people, 40,000 of them in the catering trade and tourism sector alone.
