The Office of the Commissioner General has three primary functions:
^recruitment of and assistance for participating nations and international organizations;
^coordination of Germany’s EXPO 2000 contribution;
participation in the determination of the content of EXPO, including the selection of the projects for the Thematic Area.
The Office of the Commissioner General, which is headquartered in Berlin, carries out its work in keeping with Agenda 21, the action program for sustainable development which was adopted and signed by 178 nations at the 1992 United Nations Conference on Environment and Development in Rio de Janeiro.
