5>the Goethe Institute, which as of June 1997 had 145 cultural institutes in 78 countries and 18 branches in Germany and whose main tasks are to cultivate the German language abroad and promote international cultural cooperation;
5>the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), which organizes exchanges of students and academic staff;
5>the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, which promotes highly qualified foreign academics by awarding fellowships for their research and stay in Germany;
I-INTER NATIONES, which hosts foreign guests of the government and provides a wide range of information on the Federal Republic of Germany through films, tapes, books and other printed material;
>the Institute for Foreign Relations, which among other things organizes German exhibitions abroad and foreign exhibitions in Germany; and
2>the German-American Fulbright Commission, which promotes the mutual exchange of particularly qualified academics, students and teachers between Germany and the United States of America.
