Covasna (Hungarian: Kovászna, German: Kowasna) is a town in Covasna county, Transylvania, Romania, at an altitude of 550-600 m.
It is known as “town of 1,000 mineral springs�. It is an important watering place. Covasna’s name is derived from the Slavic word Cvaz, meaning sour, referring to the taste of its mineral waters.
As of 2004, a recent census shows 11,204 inhabitants. About two-thirds of the population are ethnic Hungarians.
