Ninove - City Politics
Since 2001, the mayor of Ninove is Luc Durant of the VLD. The city-council currently has 31 members, and is composed as follows:
12 liberals from VLD
7 Christian-democrats from CD&V
1 flemish-nationalist from N-VA
5 socialists from SP.A
4 flemish nationalists of the far-right party Vlaams Belang
1 liberal from Banier
1 member of the green party (Groen!)
CD&V and N-VA have allied themselves at the last election and are now in coalition with the VLD. Due to the increase in population, the threshold of 35,000 inhabitants has been passed and Ninove will have 33 council members at the next communal elections, which will be held on Sunday October 8, 2006.
