East Flanders
East Flanders is a province of Flanders, one of the three regions of Belgium. It borders on (clockwise from the North) the Netherlands and the Belgian provinces of Antwerp, Flemish Brabant, Hainaut and West Flanders. It has an area of 2,991 km² which is divided into six administrative districts (arrondissementen in Dutch) containing 65 municipalities. The provincial population is 1,374,000 and the capital is Ghent.
Since 26 November 2004, the governor has been André Denys(VLD)[1], the former governor was Herman Balthazar(SP-A). The provincial parliament, Provincieraad, has 84 members. Six people chosen from the parliament are the deputies, bestendigde deputatie, and form the daily governement. The province has a yearly budget of approximately 300 million euro.
