The Lower Austrian Wine-Growing Areas

Filed under:

Kremstal
For many centuries, the area around the renowned wine center of Krems has been renowned for its vineyards. This is due largely to the topography, which is characterized by soil layered over bedrock in some areas, and loess (a loamy deposit that is superb for grape growing) in others.

Visitors to the area will find panoramic views of the Krems Valley from the Göttweig Abbey hill, at either the Zwei Pappeln in Rohrendorf or the Wetterkreuz looking towards Krustetten.

Area Wines: Kremstal is known for its fantastic Grüner Veltliners, but also produces excellent Rieslings and Chardonnays.
